What is Fieldfisher?

Fieldfisher is a European law firm with market-leading practices in technology, financial services, energy & natural resources and life sciences.

What does the Partnership Tax team do?

The Partnership Tax team supports the firm with all tax‑related matters linked to the partnership structure. This includes preparing partner tax returns, managing partner profit allocations, handling HMRC submissions, monitoring key tax deadlines, supporting annual tax cycles, and working closely with partners and internal finance teams to ensure accurate reporting and compliance.

This apprenticeship would suit somebody who…

The role would appeal to someone who has an interest in tax, numbers, working with people, problem‑solving, and wants to understand how tax works within a large professional services firm. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys analytical work, spotting patterns, and working through detailed information. You’ll gain a solid grounding in how partnership tax operates and how the team supports partners and the wider business.

As a Tax apprentice, you will….

The Tax apprenticeship will gain hands‑on experience across the key areas of our Partnership Tax function. You’ll spend time working on tasks such as preparing partner tax packs, helping with HMRC submissions, reviewing and compiling documentation, supporting year‑end processes, and assisting with day‑to‑day queries from partners and internal teams. You will work on big international projects, working directly with foreign offices and partners. This apprenticeship offers a brilliant insight into how tax underpins the financial operations of a law firm.

Candidates should have:

  • A minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) including English, IT and Maths grades 9-6 (A-C)
  • The ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Curiosity and flexibility
  • An eagerness to learn
  • Drive and determination for a career in professional services
  • Problem-solving skills
  • A 'can do' attitude

Quality on both sides
Across all our offices and jurisdictions are market-leading practices in corporate/M&A, finance, real estate, energy and natural resources, technology and life sciences.

We count as clients large corporations including major technology firms, pharmaceutical and life sciences companies, energy suppliers, infrastructure companies, global banks and financial institutions.

"My apprenticeship has given me the chance to build real experience from day one. I’ve been able to learn how different areas of HR work by getting involved in day-to-day tasks and seeing how everything fits together. It’s been a brilliant way to grow my confidence and skills.

I knew I wanted to take on an apprenticeship because I learn best by doing, and HR has always interested me. The idea of earning while learning really appealed to me, and the support you get throughout the programme makes a huge difference."

"I’m currently completing my IT apprenticeship in Infrastructure and Cybersecurity. I was really drawn to the idea of leaving school to start my career early, especially with the chance to work hands-on with technology.

Fieldfisher stood out to me because it felt like a place that genuinely values its people. The office environment, the benefits, the supportive teams and the firm’s goals and policies all played a big part in why I wanted to work here."

"I’m doing a two-year finance apprenticeship where I rotate to a new team every six months. It’s been a great way to see how each part of the finance function works, and I’m currently with the office accounts team.

I chose the apprenticeship route because I wanted hands-on experience rather than going straight to university. I’ve always enjoyed maths, so working in finance felt like a natural fit. Another big plus is finishing the programme without the debt you’d usually have from a degree, and there’s even the chance of a job at the end, which isn’t always guaranteed with university."

Since starting as a Legal Support Services Apprentice with Fieldfisher in September 2023, I have thoroughly enjoyed all the opportunities I have been presented with. I have already picked up so many new skills from my first 6 months at the firm. Skills such as communication, organisation, adaptability, and initiative.  As I am a Legal Support Services Apprentice, I have the privilege of being in both the Practice Administration Team and DPU (document production unit). This has been extremely beneficial for me as an apprentice, as I have been able to gain knowledge and understanding of two different departments of the business which has both challenged and benefitted me massively to adapting to full time work.

After a gap year I came across the apprenticeship advertised on a job site, and it instantly caught my eye as an 'earn while you learn' apprenticeship scheme appealed to me a lot. I attended an assessment centre which was such a great opportunity to gain experience in a professional environment. The studying side of the apprenticeship fits in perfectly to my schedule and is ran excellently. I am given allocated study hours for when I have any assignment deadlines or exams coming up.

There is an extremely positive working atmosphere at the firm, everyone is extremely pleasant, and I am never afraid to approach anyone for support. I am constantly learning new skills every day which helps me progress and a fast rate.
